I love author visits and am available on Wednesdays (as I work as a teacher part-time). The book is most suitable for ages 11 – 14 with some flexibility. I have 20 years teaching experience and the aim of my visits are to inspire creativity and love of reading in all students.
Here I am talking about The Secret Deep (my first video!):
Please contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org for details and pricing.
I can offer:
‘Building a book’ talk I describe my writing and publication journey with interactive powerpoint and questions to keep students engaged. I detail the writing process from first draft to publication with an emphasis on editing – including a spot the difference between my own edited and unedited work – and a unique insight in cover design and my visit to the factory to see the book in production. Includes a reading and Q&A session. (1 hour – suitable for assembly)
‘Believing the impossible’ writing workshop – using a key scene in The Secret Deep as a writing prompt where students produce their own creative writing by making an ordinary situation extraordinary. (1 hour – 30 children max)
‘Science Fact into Science Fiction’ – writing workshop – how real world scientific discoveries can turn into stories (1 hour – 30 children max)
Other workshops available on request to fit your curriculum. The Secret Deep explores grief, anxiety, medical consent, ethics, myth. Please do contact me if you have an suggestions for a workshop or materials as this is in development and I am looking for ways to work with teachers and librarians.
Prices also available on request, following The Society of Authors recommended rates.
Travel expenses by train are payable by the school. I am local to the South East.
